Skills Audit 1.1
Skills Audit 1.1
Core skills:
- Singing -
Since I was 7, I have had singing lessons within my school and completed several grades. Just before lockdown, I received a distinction in my grade 5 RSL vocal examination. I also have experience in singing in choirs and acapella group throughout my time in school and in theatre groups.
- Musical Theatre -
I played Tomika in my high school's production of 'School of Rock'. Despite performing in choirs and companies since the age of 8, this was my first lead role and helped to boost my knowledge surrounding musical theatre.
- Pantomime -
Earlier this year, I played Alice in an amateur theatre production of 'Alice in Wonderland', this was my first time being in a pantomime and was an amazing experience as it taught me that acting doesn't have to always be serious.
- Acting -
I was able to achieve a grade 7 in GCSE drama where I developed on many different skills and techniques such as body language and facial expressions in order to enhance my characterisation effectively. From the ages of 8 - 12 I was a member of Colchester TheatreTrain which boosted my knowledge of theatre through extensive training and being surrounded by like minded people. During my time at TheatreTrain, I had the incredible experience to perform and several venues, including the Mercury Theatre and even the Royal Albert hall! When I was 13 I joined a local amateur theatre group called BATS (Brantham Amateur Theatre Society), where I have been ever since. Every Friday, there is teen BATS where a group of young people come together, rehearse and write scripts. At the moment, we are doing Bugsy Malone, in which I play the role of Tallulah. This experience has been brilliant and challenging as I am being put out of my comfort zone playing a part that I normally wouldn't, thus expanding my versatility skills.
- Music -
As well as drama, I have a huge passion for listening to and playing music! In GCSE music I received a grade 8 as well as full marks in my performance part. Whilst my main instrument is my voice, I can also play the clarinet and the acoustic guitar. This is useful as I find it easy to analyse the music used in theatrical performances.
Transferable skills:
- Confidence -
Once a year at BATS, people of all ages put on a musical or pantomime together, this year is 'Guys and Dolls' and I am playing Sister Sarah Brown. So far, it has been intense, as the majority of my co - leads are played by adult, professionally trained actors, but also extremely rewarding as it is boosting my confidence by pushing me.
- Creativity -
Due to my passion for literature and music, I write a lot of poetry and songs. I would say this skill is useful for when devising in drama as it has enabled me to be more imaginative and open minded to different ideas.
- Decision Making -
Here at Suffolk One, I am part of the debate team. This has taught me how to have civilised conversations with my peers when comparing ideas as well as developing these to form a strong argument.
- Organisation -
I would say that my organisation skills are relatively strong as I keep myself motivated by to-do lists and schedules that give me time to complete work, to a good standard, whilst still being able to do things I enjoy as I believe that it is important to not become consumed by school and that a balance is necessary. For example, I have a rough timetable that gives me enough time to revise and do my hobbies.
