Timeline:
Below is the timeline for each step of how I will generate my income for each of the jobs I have discussed in the PowerPoint Presentation.
January 2022 - June 2024:
- I will attend all all my lessons so that I am constantly, actively learning and ensuring that my work is completed to an optimum standard. If I am unable to attend a lesson, I will make it my priority to catch up with any missing work independently whilst keeping in contact with my teachers in case I do not understand. This will benefit my aspirational grades in the long run, giving me access to more prestigious universities.
- I will apply for a part-time job in my local area and put aside a percentage of my earnings each month so that I will eventually be able to put it towards university related funds.
September 2024 - 2027
- If I were to follow my acting route, I would like to study the BA (Hons) in Acting at RADA. However, as RADA is notoriously difficult to be accepted into, I will also apply to study the Drama, Theatre and Performance BA (Hons) at the University of Sussex. Whilst not regarded as a particularly prestigious drama school, it is still ranked highly amongst the top places to study drama in the UK, as of 2021. This will heavily improve my confidence when performing as well building on my range of theatrical knowledge.
- If I were to follow my screenwriting route, I would like to study the English Literature and Creative Writing course at UEA. This will successfully enhance the skills I need in order to become a professional screenwriter.
- Whilst at university, I will take it upon myself to join several societies such as creative writing, debate and any performing arts related opportunities. This will allow me to continue my passion for whichever subject I choose not to study, as well as allowing me to to flourish as an actor/writer through being surrounded by like-minded individuals.
- I will apply for a performing arts related part time job. Such as, working front of house at a local theatre or music venue, this must be at walking distance from my accommodation to reduce the amount of money spent on transportation. If I fail to find a job like this in my area, I will then decide to apply for jobs such as waitressing, retail or a barista as despite not gaining me experience in the industry, I will still earn money that I can put towards my education/career.
- I will house share with flatmates whilst at university to further lower my taxes monthly.
2027 -
- After graduating from university, I will stay within a 20 mile (or so) radius to my student accommodation, if I choose to move out. This is because I will expand on my 'hub' and make myself more established in my local area.
- I will find a new part-time job or just slightly increase my hours as I will need more money in order to back my freelance lifestyle. This will be easier to do as I will have slightly more free time.
- I will be putting approximately 25% of my monthly income aside so that I am able to pay my bills at the end of each year. This is because, working in a freelance career means that there is no set pay or automatic subtraction of council tax and other bills.
- In my spare time, I will be working on building my portfolio by writing different pieces of media or creating showreels. I will also be scheduling auditions or sending my writing off to people in the industry, such as producers, in order to gain recognition.
- If I decide to follow my acting route, I will also be liaising with an agent as they will help me to prepare for auditions and take care of the business side of my career. However, I will research in depth as I wouldn't want to sign onto a contract that is more beneficial for my agent. I will also be signing up to Equity so that I am paid an appropriate amount every time I have an acting job.
- I will also be promoting myself on social media platforms, such as Youtube and Instagram, so that my work is seen by others, hopefully someone senior in the industry.
